Dear Neighbors and Friends,

I invite you to join my campaign to become your next Galveston Mayor. As a former three-term Galveston mayor, born and raised here on Galveston Island, I believe it is important that I enter this race now, because I believe that Galveston needs a new direction.

I am extremely excited about the opportunity to serve the citizens of Galveston once more, and to work with you to create a strong future for this great city and its people.

Since I was last your Mayor, I’ve seen much activity occur, some positive, some concerning.

I strongly believe in the future of Galveston, our citizens, our communities and our businesses. I also believe we must improve our schools and of city government. I will engage closely with our citizens across the board to help build the kind of Galveston that many of us envision and that we know is possible.

I am confident that our future strength and potential excellence will derive from our cultural, political and economic diversity.

First and foremost, I want to make Galveston a safer place to live and raise a family – for all of our citizens – where people move their families to benefit from our schools, culture and way of life. I want Galveston government to be more transparent. I want Galveston to become a more affordable city, with only the level of government and bureaucracy necessary to function safely and smoothly. I want Galveston to be truly business friendly and a vibrant place to invest and grow, fully in keeping with our Island heritage and the many attributes that make Galveston unique. And fourth, I will support and emphasize public safety.

When I first became Mayor, the city was broke, which is historical fact. With a small team, we hunkered down, made smart choices, achieved goals, and dug out of our fiscal hole, setting the stage for future progress.

I am happy to do it again. Fiscal responsibility, along with honesty and integrity, will be foremost among the values of my campaign, and of my future time in office.

As mayor previously, I worked closely with the Port of Galveston, served on its Board, appointed people to its Board, and worked later as a port official. In my tenure, we first brought cruise ships to Galveston, and offered many proposals some of which are only now coming to fruition. That took vision.

Today, I envision for Galveston a future that includes better public schools, growth, jobs and investment, diversity of management, fair taxes, quality affordable housing, and ever improving public safety.

I will need your support. I look forward to your involvement and contributions to my campaign, during the course of which I will be touching every corner, every faith and every economic level of this beautiful island.
